WHAT IS REIKI?

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is based on the idea that an unseen life force energy flows through us and is what causes us to be alive.  Reiki seeks to restore order to the body whose energy has become unbalanced. The healing energy of Reiki can be used to provide relief from conditions such as fatigue, pain, anxiety, negative side effects of treatments and medications, joint problems, and other ailments.

Reiki does not replace, but rather is easily integrated with any medical treatment and other therapies to assist in activating a person’s inner healing potential. Reiki is now being used in a growing number of hospitals and clinics throughout the United States and throughout the world, including the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins Hospital, the University of Maryland Medical Center, and Colombia University Medical Center to name but a few.

There are many methods of Reiki being taught throughout the world today.  We are teaching 'Usui Shiki Ryoho', which refers to the original system of Reiki that has come to us via the lineage of Mikao Usui, who rediscovered and introduced Reiki in the early 1900’s.

First Degree Reiki is the first level in the Usui Reiki curriculum.  Upon completion you will have a basic knowledge of Reiki history, understand fundamental Reiki procedures and experience giving and receiving Reiki through hands-on application in an open and relaxed atmosphere. The course will introduce you to Reiki's origination, Reiki degree levels, primary level energy techniques and applications, and the hand positions for treating the self and others. You will receive a  four-part attunement, allowing access to the Reiki energy. Once the attunement process is complete, you will participate in hands-on practice with other students.

After completing this Reiki I course, you will be able to:

•          Deliver effective Reiki treatments for yourself, family, friends, clients and pets.
   
•          Use Reiki to heal any condition--physical, emotional, mental or spiritual.
   
•          Treat injuries and accidents with Reiki
   
•          Administer Reiki before and after surgery to reduce tension and pain, and support the
           healing process
   
•          Know the right questions to ask your clients before starting a Reiki treatment
   
•          Explain Reiki to someone who is unfamiliar with the system
   
•          Understand the purpose of the chakras and how they work, and utilize the
           information intuitively to bring balance and healing to the self or others.           

•         Scan  the chakra centers of the person receiving treatment and perceive areas of reduced
           vitality flow.
   
•          Channel Reiki energy into yourself or others, and sense the energy as it flows through
           your hands.
   
•          Appreciate how attitudes can create dis-ease in the mind and emotions, and how the
           physical body might be affected.
   
•          Give Reiki from any working surface including massage tables and regular chairs.
   
•          Energize your foods with Reiki
   
•          Use Reiki as a spiritual practice
